Imagine me like this: meandering through the vibrant streets of a new city, no guidebook in hand, no detailed agenda. Travelling slow has become my mantra. I've discovered the beauty of taking my time, absorbing the essence of a place rather than rushing through a checklist. It's not about seeing the most famous landmarks - it's about experiencing the heartbeat of the destination. I prefer to let each day unfold on its ownUnlike the average traveller, I don't strictly adhere to an itinerary. Planning isn't my style - I prefer to let each day unfold on its own. The allure lies in the unknown, not in predetermined highlights. I often find myself stumbling upon hidden gems that don't feature on popular lists but carry an authenticity that captivates me. Let's talk budget. I've mastered the art of exploring on a shoestring, embracing the thrill of finding budget accommodations and relishing in the charm of street food markets or local eating places. The local flavours, the sizzle of the grill, the aroma of spices - these are my Michelin-star experiences. Amidst the hustle and bustle, I carve out time for a simple pleasure - a good black coffee. It's not just a beverage. It's a ritual, a moment of reflection and a taste of the local coffee culture. No matter where I am, this comforting routine anchors me in the present. I'm never disappointed when I don't see something that everyone says I should see, that doesn't find a place in my suitcase. I've learned that the joy of travel isn't derived from checking off iconic landmarks. It's about immersing myself in the culture, savouring the unscripted moments and connecting with the pulse of a place. For me, travel is a book full of experiences, not a checklist. I live by the philosophy that the journey is as important as the destination. It's about the unexpected encounters and the spontaneous detours that lead to unforgettable memories. Tomorrow’s plans are a mysteryI've embraced the art of not knowing - tomorrow's plans are a mystery and the same-day itinerary is made on the spot. Going with the flow has led me to incredible encounters and surprising adventures. No rigid schedule, just my compass pointing to serendipitous discoveries. My luggage is a minimalist's dream - almost never exceeding 10 kg, carrying only the essentials. It's not about the possessions, but it's about the freedom to move effortlessly through the world, unburdened by excess baggage. In a world of constant connectivity, Am I different from most. Wi-Fi is my lifeline and I thrive on the thrill of navigating new cities without constant internet access. Data plans can wait - the real adventure unfolds in the uncharted territories of spontaneity. So, as I journey through life, my travel philosophy remains unchanged - slow, spontaneous and filled with the flavours of the unknown. After all, the best stories are written when you let the winds of wanderlust carry you where they may. Hanan Scheers I travel the world to find unexpected stories. 23 March 2024
