A few years ago I was here and the Jurassic Coast was part of a larger trip through the southwest of England, but you can also travel to England for this beautiful piece of coast only. You can spend days there without getting bored for a moment. I personally think Lulworth is the ideal base and the most beautiful part of this coastline. This part of this coast consists largely of sheer limestone cliffs, but also has some beautiful examples of landforms typical of coastal erosion. From the village of Lulworth West you can take beautiful walks along the coastline. The South West Coast Path, a long-distance walking route spanning the entire South West of England, passes here, and I encourage everyone to walk parts of it. At sunset you will simply be quiet here from all the natural violence that is swallowed up by sun and sea. In this small village you can also find a nice visitor centre with information about the entire area and possible walks. Nearby is 'Lulworth Cove', a small natural cove that is visited by about a million tourists a year. Geologically, this would be one of the best examples in the world of such a small round bay along a steep coast with a narrow passage to the sea. On the other side of the village, more to the west, you can find 'Durdle Door', a wonderful natural bridge that braves the water of the sea. Both 'Lulworth Cove' and 'Durdle Door' and the steep limestone cliffs are typical of the Jurassic Coast. But also inland you will find a beautiful landscape of sheep and large English properties. A must visit here is the beautiful 17th century castle 'Lulworth Castle', situated in the middle of a park. The castle only opened its doors to visitors in 1998. You can explore the castle, climb the tower and visit the 18th century chapel of St. Mary and the 15th century church of St. Andrew. On this domain and in the surrounding woods you can take beautiful walks and end the day with a nice picnic. Do you like a slightly active holiday with some beautiful walks combined with a piece of history and do you want to return to your inner self by melting away with the sunset? Then don't forget this part of England. Hanan Scheers I travel the world to find unexpected stories. 7 November 2020
