Cycling through the water in Belgian Limburg

Did you know that the clever cycle route network where you cycle from junction to junction is a Limburg invention? 2000 kilometres of metalled, safe and mostly car-free cycle paths.

The well-known blue signs along the route ensure that you don’t get lost. It's just relaxed cycling. And in the Wijers you cycle through the water. In Bokrijk there is a cycle path between junctions 91 and 98 that crosses one of the ponds of the Wijers.

You literally cycle through the water

Via a cycle path of 212 metres long on a path of 3 metres wide, with the water on both sides at eye level you literally cycle through the water. To the left and right of the cycle path you look over the water surface.

A cool experience, very close to nature. You see, feel and smell the water. But a unique image is also created for bystanders. Only the cyclists' heads still protrude above the water level. Many walkers undoubtedly enjoy that visual effect. This is how cycling tourists merge with the environment and the water. A total interaction with the landscape of the Wijers.

Limburg is constantly investing in new cycle paths to stimulate bicycle tourism in the Belgian province.
