The diving paradise Bonaire: a Dutch Caribbean island
Bonaire is a small island located in the Caribbean that is politically part of the Netherlands. It's a unique island that offers a variety of outdoor activities, including diving, windsurfing and bird-watching, particularly flamingos. With lush coral reefs and few sandy beaches, Bonaire is a flat, riverless island with a few hills in the southern part of the island. The northern part of the island is a rugged national park with a variety of arid terrain and vegetation.
â– Stable climate for outdoor activities
The island has a tropical marine climate with little seasonal temperature variation, making it a perfect desitination for outdoor activities. The temperature is moderated by the constant trade winds from the Atlantic Ocean, with an average temperature of 28 °C. The rainy season lasts from the last week of October to the end of January, but it's still relatively dry. Late night and early morning rains are common, usually clearing shortly after sunrise.
â– Underwater wonderland for scuba divers
Bonaire is renowned as one of the top shore-diving locations in the world. The reef along the western side of the island has been protected for years and is in excellent condition, offering visitors the opportunity to dive into an amazing underwater world right from the beach in front of their hotel. The eastern side of the island, however, is exposed to the Atlantic Ocean and is significantly rougher, so diving opportunities are limited to guided dives on all but the calmest days.
â– Quiet capital city
Kralendijk is the capital city and main port of Bonaire. It's a small, quiet town with many pastel-coloured buildings, making it an attractive distination for those seeking peace and relaxation. The centre of the town consists of a boulevard (Kaya Craane) and a shopping street (Kaya Grandi), offering visitors a chance to explore the local shops and boutiques.
