A deep dive into change and self-discovery
'Before It Might Be Gone' is a raw and honest self-reflection of someone confronting themselves for the first time. The album is a journey of transformation, capturing all the aspects that come with it. How do you grasp who you used to be? How do you figure out who you want to become? Change can bring feelings of hope and happiness, but to get there, you first need to take a deep look in the mirror. It’s a quest for happiness, peace and acceptance.
A sound that’s unmistakably The Vices
The Vices bring a contrasting mix of Britpop, Indie, Psychedelic Blues and Surf Rock. Imagine the love child of The Strokes and Cage the Elephant, with a live energy reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. These are big names, but above all, The Vices remain uniquely themselves. With infectious enthusiasm and seriously intense riffs, the band plays just as tightly and explosively as they do rhythmically and danceable. After multiple sold-out club tours in the Netherlands, their own festival called ViceFest, and a US tour with 25 shows, the band is ready for their new adventure with 'Before It Might Be Gone'.
From observing the world to looking inward
The Vices have always asked questions, but while their previous albums focused more on external world events, 'Before It Might Be Gone' deals with deeply personal issues—struggles that sometimes make it hard to feel okay with yourself.
"The most beautiful thing is coming home and finding unconditional love, even in your darkest moments. That’s what the family dinner on the album cover represents for us," says Floris.
"Of course, your personal problems are tied to the rest of the world. You live in this world, you measure yourself and your actions against it. I realised I hadn’t always treated people well. I had certain negative patterns and made bad choices—I needed to change. This period brought up many questions. How do I want to relate to the world? How do I make things right? Do I believe that everyone deserves a second chance? And what does the rest of the world think? I feel like our society isn’t very forgiving. But is public opinion really that important? Or does it come down to your own beliefs and those of your loved ones?"
Ultimately, this leads to a shifting perspective on how to live life. You need to feel the bad in order to see the path to the good again. The members of The Vices faced this challenge head-on, channeling it into this album.
