The adventure begins: trail highlights and experience

■ Day 1: Sembalun to Sembalun Crater Rim

Your adventure starts in the village of Sembalun, where you’ll trek through rolling hills and grassy savannahs. The initial climb is steep but rewards you with panoramic views of the lush valleys below. As you reach the Sembalun Crater Rim, you’ll set up camp and witness a stunning sunset over the island, with the majestic Rinjani towering above.

■ Day 2: Sembalun Crater Rim to Summit and Lake Segara Anak

Day two is the most challenging yet exhilarating part of the journey. Begin your ascent to the summit in the early hours, hiking under a canopy of stars. The final stretch is a steep and rocky climb, but reaching the summit at dawn is an experience like no other. From the top, you’ll enjoy a 360-degree view that spans across the island and even to neighbouring Bali.
After soaking in the summit’s grandeur, descend to the caldera and discover Lake Segara Anak. This turquoise crater lake, nestled within the volcano, is a serene and otherworldly sight. The nearby hot springs offer a perfect spot to relax and soothe your muscles after the strenuous climb.

■ Day 3: Lake Segara Anak to Senaru Village

The final leg of your journey takes you through dense rainforests and along scenic ridges as you descend towards Senaru Village. This section is rich with flora and fauna, including playful monkeys and vibrant birdlife. The lush, green canopy provides a welcome respite from the volcanic terrain, and the journey ends with a sense of accomplishment and wonder.
